The COMAU 1GXL TWIN horizontal machining centre was manufactured in Italy in 2003 by Comau S.p.A.. The TWIN module consists of two machining centres used for the machining of the lower cylinder head. The workpiece loading and unloading process is carried out automatically by a portal.
Each machine is equipped with a rotary table with workpiece clamping device during machining, fitted at the front of each module, and a movable head mounted on the case for milling, drilling or honing.
The electro-spindle of the COMAU 1GXL TWIN machining centre with HSK 63 tool holder is fixed to a headstock which moves vertically along the column housing. This movement forms the Y axis of the machining centre. The spindle, rotating at 16000 rpm, has an automatic tool lock/unlock system. The tools are loaded/unloaded from a rotary magazine with 23 tools. Each tool can have a maximum weight of 4 kg, a length of 270 mm and a diameter of 170 mm.
Each of the 1GXL TWIN modules is equipped with a series of supply systems such as: hydraulic system TRABON lubrication system, pneumatic system and cooling system. The machine is controlled by a SIEMENS Sinumerik 840D CNC control. The feeds in the X/Y/Z axes are 630 mm and the accelerated feeds are 10m/sec2. The milling centre weights 29200 kg.
