Horizontal milling centre COMAU 1GXL TWIN was manufactured in 2001 by Italian company Comau S.p.A. The purpose of the milling centre is the machining of the bottom head of cylinders. The milling machine consists of two modules mounted opposite each other, equipped with a rotary table and a movable head.
The rotary table of the milling machine is mounted at the front of each module and has a device for clamping the workpiece during machining. The movable head, which mills, drills holes or smoothes the workpiece, is mounted on the casing. The electro-spindle with HSK 63 tool taper of the machining centre is fixed to a headstock which slides vertically along the column casing to create the Y axis.
The spindle, rotating at 16000 rpm, is equipped with a tool unlocking/locking system. The COMAU 1GXL TWIN rotary magazine holds 23 tools, with a maximum weight of 4 kg, length 270 mm and diameter 170 mm. The machining centre modules are fitted with several systems such as: hydraulic system, TRABON lubrication system, pneumatic system and cooling system.
The milling centre is controlled by a SIEMENS Sinumerik 840D CNC control. The maximum feeds in the X/Y/Z axes are 630 mm, with accelerated feeds of 10 m/sec2. The total weight of the machining centre is 29200 kg.
