Horizontal milling centre COMAU 1GXL TWIN

The horizontal milling centre COMAU 1GXL TWIN was manufactured by the Italian company Comau S.p.A. in 2003. The machining centre for lower cylinder head machining, with SIEMENS Sinumerik 840D CNC control, consists of two modules mounted opposite each other. Each module has a rotary table and a movable head.

At the front of each module there is a rotary table with a device for clamping workpieces during machining. On the casing of the machine there is a movable head for milling, drilling and smoothing the workpiece. The milling machine operates in three axes (X,Y,Z) with maximum feeds of 630 mm (for each axis). The installed portal of the COMAU 1GXL TWIN machine allows for automatic loading and unloading.

The spindle head is located in the horizontal axis, in which is fixed the electro-spindle with HSK 63 tool cone, rotating at 16000 rpm. The automatic tool locking/unlocking system picks up and puts down tools from a rotary magazine with a capacity of 23 tools. Each tool in the magazine can have a maximum weight of 4 kg, diameter 170 mm and length 270 mm.
