Horizontal milling centre COMAU 1GXL TWIN

The horizontal milling centre COMAU 1GXL TWIN was manufactured in 2003 by the Italian company Comau S.p.A. in Italy. The machining centre for machining the lower cylinder head consists of two modules placed opposite each other. Each module has: a rotary table with a device for clamping the workpieces during machining, a movable head used for milling, drilling and honing and an electro-spindle with HSK 63 tool taper rotating at 16000 rpm.

The electro-spindle of the machine is fixed to the headstock. It is equipped with an automatic tool locking/unlocking system, which picks up/put down tools from a rotary magazine with 23 tools. Each tool in the magazine can have a maximum weight of 4 kg, diameter 170 mm and length 270 mm.

The machining centre is also equipped with power installations such as: hydraulic installation, pneumatic installation and cooling installation. The X/Y/Z axes are controlled by a SIEMENS Sinumerik 840D CNC control and have a maximum feed rate of 630 mm. The total weight of the COMAU 1GXL TWIN machine is 29200 kg.
