DOOSAN LYNX 220A CNC lathe was built in 2010 in South Korea by Doosan Infracore. The machine, designed for precision machining of workpieces with a maximum diameter of 510 mm, ensures high accuracy and repeatability of the produced parts for many years of intensive use. The machining process is performed by means of a spindle driven by a high-powered motor. The spindle rotates at a maximum speed of 6000 rpm and operates in two axes, X and Z, with feed of 175 mm and 330 mm respectively. It is supported by a three-row angular contact ball bearing at the front and a single-row cylindrical roller bearing at the rear, which reduces the impact of thermal distortion of the front end and improves the machining precision at high speeds.
The DOOSAN LYNX 220A features a 12-position turret with a large 210 mm diameter cam clutch and a 39 kN hydraulic clamp. The turret’s rigid design ensures stable heavy-duty machining, high surface finish, long boring bar reach and extended tool life. Turret rotation is controlled by a high-torque servo motor, while indexing takes place in both directions with a position change time of just 0.11 seconds.
In the turning process, precise positioning and stable support of the workpiece are crucial. For this reason, the DOOSAN LYNX lathe is equipped with a robust tailstock with widely spaced guides. The tailstock body is positioned by means of a traction rod cooperating with the carriage, while the movement of the rod and the hydraulic clamping are performed manually.
In order to guarantee high geometric accuracy of the design under high working loads, it was designed based on the finite element method (FEM – Finite Element Method). The heavily ribbed body effectively dampens any vibrations generated during machining, resulting in a stable process and high workpiece quality. All process parameters are programmed in the intelligent CNC control with an intuitive interface and access to many advanced functions. The LYNX 220A CNC turning center weighs 2900 kg.
